The factory select jumpers must be placed in the default position specified for proper operation of the drive. Jumpers are read only during initialization of the drive. If the jumper settings are changed, the drive must be reset by powering it down or by issuing a bus device reset command before the new settings will take effect. Terminator Power - If jumper W5 is installed the drive will source/ receive terminator power to/from the SCSI bus. Hard/Soft SCSI Reset - If jumper W6 is installed the hard reset SCSI option is selected. Enable Look Ahead Read - If jumper W8 is installed the look ahead read option is enabled. Enable Power On Sequence Up - If W10 is installed the drive will automatically sequence up when power is applied. If W10 is not installed the drive will require a Sequence Up command before the drive will be spun up. The disk drive SCSI ID is selected by installing jumpers on J4 (1-2, 3-4, 5-6). SCSI ID 0 is the default jumper selection. +----------+-----------------------+ | SCSI ID | Jumpers | | | 5-6 | 3-4 | 1-2 | +----------+-------+-------+-------+ |x 0 | OPEN | OPEN | OPEN | | 1 | OPEN | OPEN | CLOSED| | 2 | OPEN | CLOSED| OPEN | | 3 | OPEN | CLOSED| CLOSED| | 4 | CLOSED| OPEN | OPEN | | 5 | CLOSED| OPEN | CLOSED| | 6 | CLOSED| CLOSED| OPEN | | 7 | CLOSED| CLOSED| CLOSED| +----------+-------+-------+-------+ J4 7-8 Disable Auto Sequence Up -------------------------------- If auto sequence up is enabled (J4 7-8 Not installed), the drive will delay six seconds after power is applied (multiplied by its SCSI ID) before spin up begins. J4 9-10 Write Protect ---------------------- Connecting J4-9 with a jumper to J4-10 will inhibit writing and protect all previously written data. Remote Ready ------------ This line may be used to operate a remote LED. +5 Volts -------- This is five volts from the drive. Block Size ---------- The block size can be selected through the Mode Select command or by the jumper selection. Block Size Jumpers +--------+--------+-----------------+ | J5 3-4 | J5 1-2 | Block Size | +--------+--------+-----------------+ | Out | Out | Via Mode Select | | Out | In | 256 bytes | | In | Out | 512 bytes | | In | In | 1024 bytes | +--------+--------+-----------------+ Disable Unit Attention ---------------------- Connecting J5-5 and J5-6 will disable the generation of Unit Atten- tion after device reset. Disable SCSI Bus Parity ----------------------- Connection J5-7 and J5-8 will disable the checking of SCSI bus parity. Factory Jumpers --------------- The factory use jumpers must be placed in the default position specified for proper operation of the disk drive. RP6/RP7 Termination -------------------- The ORCA drive is shipped with a terminator installed to minimize reflections and ensure maximum data integrity. In a daisy chain configuration the first SCSI device and the last SCSI device must be terminated. Other terminators must be removed. The OT512-S drive will supply terminator power to the SCSI bus if jumper W5 is installed. If a terminated drive loses power, terminator power will be received through W5, if supplied by another SCSI device. J6 Front Panel Interface (LED) ------------------------------- The front panel indicator is a green LED that illuminates when the drive is selected. It is connected via a internal cable to front panel connector J6 on the bottom side of the PCBA. The front panel (bezel) with LED and cable are an OPTION. ********************************************************************** I N S T A L L ********************************************************************** ORCA OT512-S INSTALLATION MANUAL P/N 308120 JANUARY 17, 1992 Notes on Installation ===================== Drive Mounting Dimensions ------------------------- Side mounting screws must not extend more than 1/16 inch past the inside of the frame. The drive may be mounted in any orientation using the industry standard mounting configuration. Sway space/ventilation clearance in the Z axis (through the spindle) of .030" must be provided. Drive Handling Guidelines ------------------------- Do not drop the drive from any height. Set the drive down carefully on a padded surface. Carts used to transport drives should have soft rubber wheels to ab- sorb shock. Foam pads should be placed under drives when transport- ing. Store and transport drives right-side up (long dimension horitontal or flat, top up, and drive motor down). Drive must rest on a flat surface. Do not put papers, etc. under the drive. Do not dress or reposition components, wires, or cables. Do not place drives in vertical position closer than two to three inches apart to avoid hitting and breaking components. Do not remove seals from the Head/Disk Assembly. This will result in contamination which affects drive operation. Do not attempt to disassemble the Head/Disk Assembly. Do not place objects on top of the drive (especially metallic objects). Do not store the drive where a possibility exists of condensation from humid air. Shock and Vibration Precautions ------------------------------- The drives must be handled in such a manner so as not to exceed the Non-Operating and Installed, or Unpacked and Stored environmental specifications. Automatic Head Actuator Lock ---------------------------- This automatic lock requires no action by the user. When the drive is powered down, the actuator locks onto a designated landing zone to prevent head/media damage when shipped and handled according to specifications. Cable Connections ----------------- The interface cables may not exceed six meters (19.7 ft.) J2 DC Power ----------- The drive power connector is a 4-pin connector, mounted on the component side of the PCBA. The recommended mating connector is AMP P/N 1-480424-0, utilizing AMP pins P/N 61314-4 (Strip) or P/N 60617-4 (Loose Piece). +-----J2-----+ pin 1 +12 VDC 5% AT 4.5A max. (power-up 10%) | 1 2 3 4 | pin 2 +12 Volts Return --+------------+- pin 3 + 5 Volts Return ------------------- pin 4 + 5 VDC 5% AT 2.5A max. J3 SCSI Interface ----------------- J3 is a 50-pin right-angle socket header. The pins are numbered 1 through 50 with the odd pins located closest to the PCB. All odd numbered pins are ground except pin 25, which is left open. It receives a 50-pin flat cable socket connector. The recommended mating connector is 3M O/N 3425-7050 or SAE RD6350-R5C.
